Top 10 Stan Lee Cameos

It hurts for me to write about Stan Lee in the past tense, he was a hero to me and someone I’d always hoped to meet but was never lucky enough to have had the opportunity. One of my prized possessions is the autograph I managed to obtain when Stan made his last appearance at the 2013 London Comic-Con.

At 17 years of age, he took a starting position at Timely Comics (the company that would one day become Marvel Comics) he would later progress to a comic book writer/creator, editor and even publisher at Marvel comics. Along with artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he created a large portion of America’s modern-day mythology.

He was a relentless promoter of the power of comic books and the positive role they could play in people’s lives. Back in the 1970s, in his Stan’s Soapbox column, he rallied against such subjects as racism, social injustice, and immorality, issues that are as relevant now, as they were then.

As his writing career finished, Stan made a series of much-loved cameos in (nearly) every Marvel movie that has been released over the last twenty years. Stan’s was a box office behemoth! He has accumulated over $30 billion at the box office, something he pointed out to his friends regularly. His cameos have seen him play security guards, a bus driver, and bystander extraordinaire. Was Stan Lee really a “Watcher” as some fan theories have suggested? Or was he completely incapable of holding down a regular job?

Either way, the man is a legend and in his honour we hope you enjoy our Top 10 Stan Lee cameo appearances:

1. Stan Lee Cameo in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Stan is sat on an asteroid having a casual chat with some Watchers, you know, as you do.

What impact does it have?
This scene is actually Stan’s second cameo in the film (the other he was glimpsed during a cosmic leap through space), scene. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, later stated, “We thought it would be fun to put that in there because that really says, so wait a minute, he’s this same character who’s popped up in all these films.” While Feige isn’t actually confirming Stan’s status as a Watcher (maybe an informant for them?) but Stan has undoubtedly been busy traveling through time, space and the Marvel Movie/TV universe.
