The 10 Most Anticipated Movies For the Rest of 2019

As the wise Associate Bob said in Demolition Man, “Greetings and salutations!”, my name is Chris and I will be your guide on Super Loot’s guide to the 10 most anticipated movies for the rest of 2019.

As moviegoers, we have been utterly spoiled by the number of quality films that have been released so far this year. Regardless of your taste, there has been something for everyone!
So far this year we have had the box office behemoth Avengers: Endgame that has proved to be the cinematic event of our generation, not to mention other crowd-pleasing flicks like Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, John Wick 3 and Jordan Peele’s Us. If Maximus Decimus Meridius were to ask us at this point, “are you not entertained?” I am sure the answer would be a resounding, YES!
But wait, there is so much more to come!

I have compiled a list of 10 movies that are due to be released in the second half of the year and keep us entertained until the dawn of 2020. However, in an attempt to give you guys a different type of movie list, we have five films that I am certain you, dear reader, will already be aware of (…..probably) and five movies that you probably did not realise are on the docket for release.

10. I.T. Chapter 2

Who is in it? Bill Skarsgård, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy & Bill Hader.

What is it about? Chapter Two is set 27 years after the events of chapter one and sees the Loser Club drawn together again in the dreadful town of Derry, after a phone call delivers some disturbing news.

Why should I care? Chapter Two sees the resolution of the Stephen King horror classic but will mainly focus on the exploits of the Loser Club as adults whilst they try to rid themselves of the accursed clown, Pennywise! The trailer alone scares me, even though I’ve read the book! We all float down here!

When is it out? 6 September 2019

9. Frozen 2

Who is in it? Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad & Jonathan Groff.

What is it about? I have read a rumour online that there was going to be a romantic storyline for Olaf, but details on the plot have been kept a secret so far, so your guess is as good as ours at this point.

Why should I care? Because as a father of two young princesses, I have had to deal with Frozen fever (including the animated short) at home and in car journeys for many years, and just as things were settling and the kids were moving on, here comes Frozen 2. So, we all need to brace ourselves for another wave of Frozen’s brand of sisterly love. Also, when the first trailer was released it reportedly had 116.4 million views within the first 24 hours.

When is it out? 22 November 2019

8. Terminator: Dark Fate

Who is in it? Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger & Tom Hopper.

What is it about? Set around twenty years after Judgement Day, Sarah Connor is back and trying to protect a young lady – Dani Ramos – from a liquid terminator!

Why should I care? The band is getting back together! Terminator: Dark Fate is bringing back Linda Hamilton, James Cameron, and Arnie! This installment takes place after Judgement Day and terminates all subsequent movies (Rise, Salvation, and Genisys) from the timeline.

When is it out? 23 October 2019

7.  Jumanji: The Next Level

Who is in it? Karen Gillan, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart & Jack Black

What is it about? The group of friends are back together and have to save one of their own, who has gotten lost in Jumanji (again), this time there are icy tundra’s, sandy deserts and geriatrics! What could go wrong?

Why should I care? The 2017 version mixed laughs with action, whilst allowing the cast to play against type with plenty of heart. The trailer for The Next Level shows that whilst there will be similar elements to the 2017 version, the addition of Danny De Vito & Danny Glover will add a twist and a different type of humour. Plus, I don’t know about you, but I could watch The Rock and Kevin Hart bicker for hours on end!

When is it out? 13 December 2019

6. Gemini Man

Who is in it? Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen & Benedict Wong

What is it about? The worlds most deadly assassin is unable to eliminate one mysterious target who seems to be predicting his every move. To his horror, he learns that the man he’s trying to kill is a younger version of himself.

Why should I care? Ang Lee and Jerry Bruckheimer have combined to make what looks like a slick and stylish sci-fi thriller with a top cast and Will Smith looks like he is on top form from what I have seen so far.

When is it out? 11 October 2019

5. The Shining 2 : Doctor Sleep

Who is in it? Rebecca Ferguson, Ewan McGregor, Zahn McClarnon & Alex Essoe.

What is it about? Danny Torrance is all grown up and meets someone with similar powers to his. Danny tries to protect this stranger from a powerful and scary cult called the True Knot.

Why should I care? It’s the sequel to the Shining, what more do you need?

When is it out? 31 October 2019

4.  Zombieland: Double Tap

Who is in it? Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin & Jesse Eisenberg

What is it about? Can you believe its been ten years since the original? Columbus, Tallahasse, Wichita, and Little Rock are older and (maybe?) wiser. Whilst details on the plot are sparse, expect fighting for their lives, plenty of smart-ass comments and maybe the continuation of the hunt for an elusive twinkie?

Why should I care? In an interview (director) Ruben Fleischer with LRM stated, “I think collectively we all felt very strongly that the only circumstance we’d be willing to make the movie is if it’s as good or better than the original. And none of us were willing to compromise on the quality of the movie,” that certainly fills me with the hope that Double Tap will be as good as or may even surpass the 2009 original.

When is it out? 18 October 2019

Trailer? Nothing yet but with its release around 4 months away it should be soon, maybe SDCC?

3. Joker

Who is in it? Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz & Frances Conroy

What is it about? A failing comedian is driven too close to the edge of his sanity and the consequences could be disastrous for Gotham City.

Why should I care? I do have concerns about giving the Joker a backstory, I subscribe to the Joker’s thinking in Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke, “If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!” However, the cinematography of the trailer looks stunning, director Todd Phillips looks to have drawn inspiration from Taxi Driver and the choice of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker could be a stroke of genius.

When is it out? 4 October 2019

2. Jay & Silent Bob: Reboot

Who is in it? Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson & Shannon Elizabeth

What is it about? Kevin Smith (Writer/Director/Actor) has described the movie as a “sequel/remake/reboot” to 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Reboot sees Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) return to Hollywood to halt the Bluntman and Chronic reboot.

Why should I care? Kevin Smith has said after suffering his heart attack in 2018, he was scared he wouldn’t get to make another Jay and Silent Bob movie. Getting healthy and being unwilling to make Clerks 3 without all cast members, he has likened Reboot to be more similar in tone to Clerks 2 than Yoga Hosers!

When is it out? 15th October 2019

1. Star Wars: Rise Of The Skywalker

Who is in it? Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o & Adam Driver

What is it about? The remnants of the Resistance faces the might of the First Order once more in the last chapter of the Skywalker saga.

Why should I care? Of course, this is number one! How could it be anything different? Rise of Skywalker sees the return of Lando Calrissian and what about that laugh at the end of the trailer!!!! Oh, and lookout for a limited edition Super Loot box announcement around this time…

When is it out? 19 December 2019
